I get the concept behind a new year’s resolution. It’s the beginning of a new year, so it’s time for new beginnings, new plan, a new way of life… But I don’t get why it’s a topic of conversation. Lack of interesting topics or imagination, I guess.

It’s so funny when you hear things about yourself that aren't true. I know it bothers most people when they hear unflattering stuff being themselves. But I find such talk amusing. There was a time when it used to rile me, and even drive me to tears. I used to go into the, “I am not like that, why are they saying these mean things about me?’ mode. But no more. Thanks to the advice of the sane voice in my life. He asked me to stop and answer some questions before I allowed myself to wallow in self-pity.

The other day someone greeted me on a busy street and said hello warmly. I looked at her blankly. Then she said, “It’s Sonali Shah.” The name seemed very familiar. But I still couldn’t place her. I chatted with her for a few moments. She asked me about my work, and I asked her about hers hoping it would give me a clue about who she was. But I still couldn't place her.
